The Story Behind TriLatino
In 2005, Edel Borrero, President of TriLatino Triathlon Club completed his first triathlon, Jarden Westchester, to honor the memory of his mother who passed away from Alzheimer’s disease in early 2005. He credits his mother’s spirit for getting him through the many miles of that race.
While training, Edel felt empowered to push beyond his perceived limits. In preparation for his first race, he had to learn to not only swim, but also to ride a bike. After completing his first triathlon, his sense of accomplishment swelled. His initial thoughts of “I won’t be able to do this” were replaced by his new motto “there is nothing I can’t do”. He felt the need to share this new exhilarating experience, but with whom? How?
From Conception to Reality
Upon completion of several other triathlons, Edel realized the underrepresentation of Latinos in the sport. With knowledge of many of Latino fitness challenges coupled with his new understanding of the benefits of an active lifestyle and healthy living, he saw an opportunity to help the Hispanic community transform.
Assisted by a group of Latino athletes with a true passion for triathlon, Edel made the opportunity a reality. In 2009, TriLatino Triathlon Club was founded to help Latinos lead healthier lives by staying fit.

"La Junta" (The Board)

Who keeps TriLatino running? Six dynamic business professionals make up the engine powering TriLatino.
The board members started their friendship while training for Nautica New York City Triathlon in 2008. Fueled by the desire to make a difference and aching to see more Latinos empowered by the experience of crossing a finish line, these six Latinos invest their time and professional expertise to see TriLatino’s mission and vision accomplished.
“We are just regular guys and gals, not professional athletes, challenging ourselves a bit more with every race and having fun while doing so. We are in this, first and foremost, to achieve TriLatino charitable goals, but also to meet new friends and the opportunity to share what triathlon and endurance sports have done for us with anyone who wants to spice up their life a li’l bit. We encourage you to browse through our website… you might just be making a decision that would change your life indefinitely!”

The Meaning of Muèvete
Yep… MUEVETE! This Spanish word, like “Salsa”, is bound to become part of the English language because of the affect it has on people!
You can translate Muevete as "Move it", "Do it", "Take Action", or "Keep it going"... all that good stuff that keeps people motivated.
So when you hear someone scream “Muevete,” hurry up and get moving!
